Ropery Lane Cemetery

Ropery Lane Cemetery

With both the Parish Church and Oaks Field (now area adjacent to St Mary’s Care Home Church Chare) Cemetery nearing full capacity, a four and a half acre site in the south of the town on Ropery Lane was designated for the creation of a new burial ground. Created in 1894 with the first burial the following year.

Unless you already have a family plot the cemetery is now closed to any further burials, with Pelton (Holy Trinity) Cemetery now the designated Cemetery.

In 2013 the group recorded every burial in Ropery Lane and in most cases took a photograph of any headstone or memorial.
